Scripture Readings

Including a reading in your ceremony is a beautiful way to add depth, meaning, and a personal touch to your wedding day. Many couples choose to invite a loved one or close friend to share a reading, creating a special moment of connection and participation within the ceremony.

You may select passages that reflect your values, your relationship, or the kind of marriage you hope to build together. These can be traditional Scripture readings, romantic passages, or even meaningful excerpts from literature or poetry.

If you prefer, I am always happy to read on your behalf, or you can choose one or more people to take part. Whether faith-based or simply heartfelt, these readings help tell your story and set the tone for your marriage.

Below are some commonly chosen Scripture readings for inspiration:

1 Corinthians 13:4–10, 12–13
"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when perfection comes, the imperfect disappears.

Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.

And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love."

John 15:9–17
"I have loved you even as the Father has loved me. Remain in my love. When you obey me, you remain in my love, just as I obey my Father and remain in his love. I have told you this so that you will be filled with my joy. Yes, your joy will overflow.

This is my command: love each other in the same way that I have loved you. There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends."

Mark 10:9
"Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate."

Matthew 19:4–6
"Haven't you read," he replied, "that at the beginning the Creator made them male and female, and said, 'For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh'? So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate."

Song of Solomon 4:9
"You have captivated my heart, my sister, my bride; you have captivated my heart with one glance of your eyes."

Song of Solomon 8:6–7
"Place me like a seal over your heart, like a seal on your arm; for love is as strong as death, its jealousy unyielding as the grave. It burns like blazing fire, like a mighty flame. Many waters cannot quench love; rivers cannot wash it away. If one were to give all the wealth of his house for love, it would be utterly scorned."
